What is a Facebook Profile and Should You Create One?

Facebook is a free social networking site that was established in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg. Social networking sites build online communities to bring together people with similar interests and activities.

I remember creating my personal Facebook profile many months after Facebook was released. None of my friends or associates had heard of it, and after I showed it to them they compared it to an AOL profile. Now, years later, the buzz for Facebook is huge! You can search on Facebook for business profiles and personal profiles. The clean, easy to use interface attracts all types of users. You are now able install many types of applications on your profile such as sending free gifts to your friends to creating a superlatives list on your profile.

Now the question is should you create a Facebook profile? My answer is simple, absolutely. Whether you are a business or a professional in your industry, you can create a profile to network with individuals or companies in your industry. If you are an individual who is interested in networking in your community, you can sign up for a personal profile and put that you are interested in networking. You can use Facebook as a means to find out industry related events, join clubs, and make new friends who you can learn from.

Or, if you have a business and you want to get more exposure, you can create a business profile and provide a link back to your business’s website. You can now find some large companies with profiles on Facebook such as godaddy.com, coca-cola.com, and amazon.com. Plus, Facebook opened up their profile pages to give users exposure in the search engines. Now if you search for someone’s name or business, you might see a link to their Facebook profile in the search results.
